Why cars are hard to clean
Seats are made of foam that absorbs fluids, carpets sit on padding, and there are gaps under panels and seat rails where liquid collects. What looks clean on top can still be contaminated underneath.
If a crime happened in the vehicle, the California Victim Compensation Board lists crime scene cleanup in a vehicle as an eligible expense, for work by a provider registered with the California Department of Public Health. Source: CalVCB.
If the vehicle was towed or held by police, ask where it is and when it will be released before you book the cleanup.

Before you book
Questions to ask on the phone
You can ask any of these on the first call. A reputable company will answer them plainly.

- Will you give me a written price before work starts, and what could change it?
- Which materials do you expect to remove, and will you show me before you do?
- Can you work with my insurer or with a CalVCB claim by providing an itemized invoice and photos?
- How will the waste leave the home, and where does it go?
- Can I keep personal items or papers that are set aside during the work?
Questions
Vehicles: common questions
Can the car be cleaned where it is parked?
Often it can be cleaned at a home or a tow yard, if the yard allows it. Tell the company where the vehicle is.
Will my auto insurance pay?
Some auto policies may cover part of it, depending on the coverage and the cause. Ask your insurer before work starts.
Are some vehicles not worth cleaning?
Sometimes the cost of replacing seats and carpet is high compared with the vehicle's value. The company can tell you what is involved so you and your insurer can decide.
